What are these people doing
with that round stone?

1. Devotees would first
offer burning incense, prayed before consulting the oracle stone
for divine reveal
2. The icon of worship is a Kramat Datuk Loyang that is a burial
of a local saint. How many strange sights can you find from this
photo?
3. Close up of the Kramat; notice the incense
smoke
that constantly manifest different shapes up to our imagination;
4. The Kramat place is meant and decorated to be very holy, no
shoe was allowed inside.
Oracle Stone that Reveals Wining
4D?
It is a fact of life that many Singaporeans nowadays are addicted
to gambling in 4D and Toto. Some people even prayed to any object
under the sun for seeking the four digit winning numbers. As
ridiculous as it gets, gamblers bow down to rocks, trees and even
tombs for rewards. Be it supernatural or superstitious, there are
many who want to try their luck in such cult practice.
There is one popular myth via a piece of round shaped granite that
measures less than two feet in diameter, namely Loyang Oracle
Stone, on which wining 4D numbers will be revealed to the destined
devotees.
The stone is located between a Kramat Datok Loyang and a Hindu
temple that is part of a multi-racial religious worship site at
Loyang, North-east of Singapore. Nearby there is a Tua Pek Kong
Temple (Chinese Taoism) as well under one old roof.
Many devotees usually came worshipped all the different deities of
different cultural, made a wish, and then sat down staring at the
oracle stone through mists of burning incenses. It is believed if
one has sincerely prayed to the deities in the temple, the deities
would answer or reveal some divine message through this oracle
stone. Can you see a number on the stone?

Can you see what they see?

Take a closer look. Can you
see what is the message on the stone now?
Strange Fish and Pontianak Trees
There are many other paranormal instances happened at Loyang
temple. One auspicious phenomenon is the case where many flocks of
fish swam near the temple on 3 February 2005 for six to seven
hours. The school of fish came in groups of ten or more, actively
swam towards the shallow patch of water near the shore. The
smallest fish is about four inches while the largest is up to a
feet long. Many believers suppose that is a good omen, and indeed
they assume it is of something supernatural gifted to this temple.

This strange fish phenomenon
is reported on newspaper
Another supernatural case, however,
that is quite infamous happened some decades ago before the Loyang
temple was refurbished into today's grand scale. The stretch of
sea shore that measured about two meters wide, stood with a dense
little forest. The temple at that time was no bigger than a small
makeshift brick house. The surrounding was very ulu indeed. But
its quietness attracted many anglers came fishing, especially at
the dead of the night.
This story took place on SPI ET (Eugene Toh) when he was once
young and innocent. ET was a big fan of fishing, from local to
Malaysia. Something spooky happened to him and his friend on this
fateful night.
The time was almost midnight. The Loyang temple was of course not
as famous as it is today, hence at night it was as quiet as a
graveyard. ET and his friends were one of the few who knew this
particular stretch of sea shore with some dense mangrove around
the place. The dim light from probably the burning oil lamps from
inside the temple could barely illuminate the outline of the
mangrove. Trees were gently swaying their thin branches in the sea
breeze, casting out a mass of eerie silhouettes on the backdrop of
a cloudy sky.

1. Years ago, the original
Loyang temple could have looked something like this
2. The stretch of seashore had not changed much; ET and his friend
could have been sitting at the rock where the boy was sitting now
3. Now the Loyang temple has developed into a full scale
4. This Bodhi tree is said to be very auspicious and can ward of
evil. Many devotees tied ribbon knots on the tree to make wishes

But not all the trees are
deemed of good fortune. Some here at the ulu mangrove beside the
temple are said to be haunted by Pontianak
In the dead of the silence, while
waiting for their prey on the other end of the fishing rods, ET
and his friend suddenly sensed something gingerly moved them from
behind. The hairs on their neck stood. Quickly they turned around.
They thought they had seen something but not very sure as they
were in time to watch "something" vaguely in white color ducked
away and vanished in the trees.
ET's friend asked, "Did you smell Fangi Pani (some fragrance of a
flower)?" ET replied, "No, I smell Lasik Lamak", as he had just
opened a packet of rice ready to fill his hungry stomach. They
didn't feel funny because this time they heard it louder and
clearer. The sound was like dozens of souls dragging their feet
across the crispy dead leaves over the mangrove, from far to near.
They heard it in clear.
The footsteps were almost in sync with the tidal waves splashing
on the rocks though in faster pace. The two boys can't help but
having goose-bumps growing wild all over their skins. They scanned
around in particular the little forest behind them in panic,
trying to locate the source of the sound.
Finally they saw pairs of green eyes sparkling and blinking like
floating tiny light bulbs, not one but at least five or six of
them, may be more. What more to the horror, is the temple door
suddenly swung open but nobody visible they could see. They can't
resist the fear anymore, imaging that phantoms of green eyes
emerged out of the forest and something invisible and unknown was
crawling out from the ulu temple.
Before it was too late, they hastily packed up their gears and ran
for life fleeing from the Loyang sea shore. Until today, this
scary experience was still vividly imprinted in ET's mind. Only he
regretted that he didn't go near to take look what phantoms the
eyes belonged to, for he was only a little boy at that time. His
friends who heard about this concluded that was Pontianak who were
frequented among those trees.

SPI decided to take a mini
investigation at the site where ET and friend encountered the
strange sightings some years ago.

1 - 2. Messy tree roots; 3.
Strange sight, but not of paranormal, a makeshift resting tent was
found deep inside the wood
4. Suddenly, SPI found a moving creature ....
SPI Finds Out the Truth
Facts may not always be as intriguing and sensational as the
myths. Although the area has been been changed shape, SPI team
went back to the little mangrove at the shore outside Loyang
temple for a small investigation.
The trees and the roots were pretty much the same as ten years
ago, only taller and probably messier by now. A fence has added to
draw out the boundary of the sea shore and the carpark recently.
Along the fence they walked.
To their great surprise, when walking a little deeper in the
trees, they saw a dog quite a big size. A little sooner, another
came, then came another. Nobody knows where a gang of dogs could
have come from, let alone figuring out why on earth they were
hiding in the forest. Probably for the cool shades from the tree.
Probably that was their home. One interesting finding is that
those dogs are very quiet. They don't bark, they do not even make
a noise. They seem to go by their smelling sense that they only
use their noses to probe around.
SPI Wei Yi was testing them in a quite of daring approach. He
offered the dog a small chunk of chocolate. Bingo. That works very
well by being able to attract the attention of the whole gang. The
dogs soon surrounded him, but again, they made not even a
slightest sound. This is something strange about their behavior
but explained perfectly on what ET and his friends encountered on
that night.
The so-called phantoms behind the trees were those dogs, well
probably their parents or relatives as it was more than ten years
ago. Nevertheless, it is verified by SPI that behind that little
forest live a colony of dogs. And, indeed, they were attracted to
food with their sharp sense of smelling. The dogs were shy too.
That explains why they were hesitating behind the bush under the
shade on that night when seen by ET and his friends. That is why
they couldn't see the dogs clearly due to insufficient light
condition. As for why the door from the temple suddenly swung
open, it is still a mystery pending for an answer.

1. After adventuring in
seven meters or so, suddenly a gang of dogs appeared;
2. Strangely they don't make a slightest noise, they just headed
towards us; unafraid we were standing embracing their charge;
3. When near can see their faces looking quite harmless. Wouldn't
the white old dog mistaken as Pontianak some years ago?
4. They used their noses and probed around each other; again, not
a slightest sound was made

1 - 2. SPI Wei Yi test their
smelling abilities with a packet of chocolates. Yes, they are very
sensitive to fragrance of food
3. Huh, people think I am Pontianak?? 4. I look handsome or
not?
SPI Supports Inter-Religious Harmony by IRO
On the 1st January 2005, SPI participated a grand event organized
by Loyang Temple. That was for praying for the victims of Tsunami
in December 2004. Eight religious leaders, together with a
Guest-of-Honour - the Ministry of Education were invited to join
this gathering that seated over 5,000 visitors. SPI was honoured
to be invited and seated at the first row along with the VIPs. As
per our SPI society constitution, our democratic paranormal
research society stands on the principle of IRO (Inter-religious
Organization) just like the multi-racial and multi-culture
Singapore herself. All the mainstream religions are protected and
respected within SPI as vowed.
The following pictorial tour shows some exciting happenings of the
night of prayers by the eight main religions. Check out the good
IRO principles (1)

that SPI stand on. And this is the
Declaration of Religious Harmony used in the SPI society and
forum too.
