Case 007: From the Ghost Stories Assorted Spooky Places

I like to add on to the Tekong Jacob's ladder

I was having my BMT at 2 BTS, camp 1, from Oct to Dec '94. The Jacob ladder was situated near at southern end of specialists'/officers' bunk. The one and only so-called 'sentry point' of Camp 1 was situated near there, as the area overlooks the southern coastline of P. Tekong, to watch out for any possible illegal landings by ships.

Rumour has it that a white cloth thing was seen momentarily on top of the ladder. It's only happened once. One of my platoon mate claimed he spotted a white cloth thing floating around the forest nearby. For your info, this rumour once strike fear into the heart of 'sentries' went away quite quickly. In fact, just before the passout, I've seen one of bold ones sitting on top of the ladder, 'admiring' the coastline.

It has always been that mystery of Tekong, I too was in Camp 1, during my time, Tekong Training was called Infantry Training Depot (ITD), during my time, elephants were spotted in Tekong (which turned out to be real).

The story goes too about two or three batches before me, a tragic accident happened where a soldier died during a route march and got his internal organs placed outside of him, Jack the Ripper like.

This together with some walking corpse story ended up with the lecture room in Charlie Company have three doors instead of the usual two in all of the other companies (I happened to come from Alpha Company).

I took the opportunity to ask the OC of Charlie Company about this story but to no avail and thus deem that this is another Urban Legend.

However, the following is true as I was there experiencing it myself, during our trench digging exercise, our company Alpha together with Echo were doing the same.

We were the first to finish the exercise (obvious that we "THUANGED") and got back to camp for dinner, after dinner, my OC and PC were asked to take part in a BOI Committee and they dragged me along as the secretary.

In front of us was a peer soldier that looked distraught, turned pale and was shivering.

Upon investigating, we found out that during the same exercise of trench digging, he saw a headless ghost entity carrying his head between his arms coming towards him.

He dismissed it as an illusion due to the fatigue and stress and took him view off it.

However as Echo was marching back to camp, he noticed that the entity was tailing him but dissappeared when he reached his bunk.

It was during his shower time that he saw the same entity again and was the last straw that broke him and reported the matter to his superiors.

What freaked us out big time was when we started to question him on some issues, his eyes were fixed on a certain location in the boardroom, he then broke down in tears to ask that if we did not believe him it was alright, but as we speak, the entity was just standing behind us.

THREE DOOR BUNK

With regards to the Famous 3 Door Bunk at Charlie Coy, Pulau Tekong, I was a recruit from Charlie Coy in 1996. on my very first night in the company line, my platoon mates and I were asked to remove some cabinets, stores etc from a bunk. It’s only shortly after that night that I knew that bunk that we went into was the 3 door bunk!

Nothing scary or spooky happened, but interesting to note, the 2 doors of my own bunk (the one directly opposite the 3 door bunk) each has the SAF Cap Badge placed on the top. It is said to ward off supernatural stuff. Back to the 3 door bunk. After the Bunk was emptied, it was converted into the Charlie Company Line office. Where the PCs and Sgts office are situated. Before the Company line was used by the Instructors, I personally witness a Priest going around the bunk chanting and conducting a ritual. I dunno whether it’s a usual practice… or it’s because it is the 3 door bunk…..

About: Story of Mysterious Death of Army Recruit (1)

I heard this story before. Apparently, there is additional info to explain why the soldier disappeared.

According to a friend of mine (a retired army officer who was an instructor in Tekong in the 70s and 80s), the platoon was resting when the soldier wanted to relieve himself. Prior to that, the officer/NCOs warned the soldiers not to go near certain areas marked out with white tape. These included several trees nearby. Although no one was certain, the victim must have gone to one of these trees to do his business. As the platoon prepared to move out, nobody noticed that he had disappeared.

My friend actually took part in the island wide search for the missing soldier. For three days, they combed the area, and passed by the tree where he was last seen many times. No one saw or heard anything. When his body was found, it was at the tree where he must have relieved himself. A report was submitted, but with no explanation how the soldier died.

When I was going through my BMT in Tekong in the late 80s, the first thing we heard about was that there was no night training on Thursday nights. I remember that my bunk (Delta Company in Camp 1) was very near to the standard obstacle course. On one particular night, the whole company was taken out for a briefing at this obstacle course. It's a very nice place, quite breezy as it was near the sea. You could even see Changi Airport in the distance, with it's bright lights and control tower. There, our OO (Orientation Officer) highlighted all the dos and don'ts while going through our training. Specifically, he warned us not to go near the obstacle course on Thursday nights. He recounted a case where a recruit, bent on passing the SOC test, trained on his own on such a night. The next morning, he woke up to find his genitals swollen to the size of a papaya! We laughed on hearing this, but the OO said that the recruit went through a lot of pain, and even the medical officers panicked, not knowing what to do. It was only when the case was brought to the attention of the Commander of Tekong Camp (I think it was a certain Major Neo, a commando) that a bomoh was called in to help. That was when the order to cease training on Thursday nights was passed down.

I have one last story regarding Tekong, this time involving my best friend. He was a clerk doing guard duty with several others one night, when the sergeant suggested that they take a rover to look for durians. (Tekong has some of the best fruit trees around, apparently planted by former residents, but I don't know if they are still around.) When they reached a potentially fruitful spot, the three of them decided to split up. While scouting around with his torchlight, my friend heard someone rushing through the bushes. To his relief, it turned out to be one of his fellow guards. However, this fellow appeared panic stricken and urged him to leave the place immediately. He would only explain when they reached camp. Quickly, both of them caught up with the sergeant and managed to convince him to leave with them. When they got back to camp, the frightened soldier explained what happened. He was looking around for durians on the ground when he heard a rustling of branches from above. When he shone his torchlight above, to his horror he spied a woman squatting on one of the branches staring down at him! No guesses as to what he saw - which was why he sought to leave place immediately. My friend assured me that that was the last of durian expeditions while he was at Tekong.

I have some other stories regarding Tekong worth listening to, but I'll save them for later. Meanwhile, keep up the good work on your website!

Regards

All guys who have been through NS know that there are 3 BMTC schools, the 1st & 3rd school located on Pulau Tekong, and the 2nd school (BMTC Sch2) located at Ngee Soon Camp. The first school is for normal recruits most of them students who have finished Poly or JC. While the 3rd school is for obese recruits or recruits who need extra training to increase their fitness.

According to rumours there is a certain incident that occurred in Tekong's BMTC Sch 1 somewhere in the early 90s(btw 1991-92). Seems a recruit from Charlie company falled out during the 24km route march & returned to camp, where he was later found by his platoonmate. The recruit was found dead with his body ripped open from chest down, completely exposed, but all his innards were missing. The next morning, the whole bunk awoke to find his organs nicely arranged in order for "inspection" (like the way we do standby weapon).

There are many variations to this story, and although I did not have any spiritual encounters at the old school 1 where I did my SOC (standard obstacle course), but out of curiosity, I went to check out the Charlie company bunk. I found the entire company bunk boarded up with wooden planks nailed to the (wooden) walls. The doors of the bunk too was nailed with 2 planks forming a "X". After I finished my BMT in Tekong, I was posted to SAFPU (Provost Unit) to be trained as an MP, and I did enquire around about this incident as I heard that SAFPU had spear-headed the investigation into this incident. SAFPU's SIB (Special Investigation Branch) was in charge of the operation to investigate the case. But so far, the SIB regulars whom I had talked to refused to talk much or remained silent about it.

Questions that remain in my head:

-Why was Charlie company closed down?
-Why did SAF boarded up the entire company bunk?
-Why was outfield training on Thursday night not allowed?
-Since the old sch was abandoned, then why was there the need to board up Charlie Coy's bunk with wooden planks?
-Why only Charlie Coy? What isn't Alpha,Bravo,Delta..etc. boarded up as well?
