The problem lies with road
knowledge, I have personally tried this stretch of road on my own
(some of the clandestine meetings with few friends as our
machines).
The largest problem here is that the bend looks very harmless, boy
racers usually try to find the right racing line to take on the
bend but fail, those who are able to find the line forgets that
this stretch of road is seldom used and normally in the shade of
trees, there is much moisture on the road and the asphalt is
pretty old and don't provide much grip, therefore the drivers who
normally spin-off are those who normally brake near the Apex of
the bend (under normal conditions, them can get away with that)
but on this road, braking early is the key to survival.
The existing tire tracks show that my view on this road being very
seldom used speaks for itself, no cleaning of the road is done.
Therefore from past experience and analyzing how to safely take on
the bend (our passion for speed), I can safely say that this bend
got its name not from any demon residing in the corner but from
the demon in our hearts that desire and push our limits without
being rational, FYI there are other corners around Singapore that
has the same problem, these corners also boasts of many accidents
and some deaths and are even milder in their outlook (Yishun Ring
Road), again misjudgment is the major cause of death, I should
know a good friend of mine just died in a much publicized accident
along this stretch of road where the vehicle broke in two under
the impact.
Post a follow-up on this mystery
here. |
