Bedok Haunted House   (Part 6 of 7)

We are cursed!

The doll

With a strong instinct, we sensed there were many things not right in the house.  One of them, more obvious than the others, was the plastic doll.  It looked like a typical human child's doll; black curly hairs, tan skin, with a green color Indian costume made out of plastic.  Despite the outlook, when we looked deep down to his eyes we sensed it was alive.  That sounded ridiculous as we all know.  However, there used to be many ghost accounts about evil animated dolls, how they interact with human and take over their lives.  For instance, a famous doll called Hell Doll talks to its owner via telepathy, encouraging him/her to evil acts (e.g. commit murderous acts).  If the owner consents, the doll can help perform the acts through the use of telekinesis-like powers.

We heard of many stories about a haunted doll - both true stories and fiction.  For this plastic doll, we were about to do a spot-check with video equipment and see whether it was haunted by any spirit inside.  The technique we used is a very standard one widely used by the other oversea ghost research teams.  In short, it was about measuring whether the doll's eyes moved over a period of time from a sequence of recorded video frames.  Assume both the video equipment and the doll were placed still.

In this example, the doll was believed to be haunted.  His eye 'moved' slightly under the video camera.

Just after we have set up everything ready, a very WEIRD thing happened!  The doll's head just suddenly broke off.  We had been handling the doll for some time, there was no sign that the neck area was cracked or anything fragile.  And of course we didn't pull the head off intentionally.  Sounded incredible, but it just suddenly dropped off.  Was that a suicide?  We wondered, and struggling with great difficulty to accept this belief - a doll killed herself in front of a video camera check?!  Or may be, something more powerful than her knew what we were trying to do, and silenced her?  Every hair on our heads stood still.

The suspected haunted doll.

(1+2) When Gate was examining the doll, its head suddenly fell off by itself!   (3+4) the creepy Tung Shu.

A curse from the Tung Shu

To proceed on to our in-depth investigation, we wanted to examine the Tung Shu page-by-page just to make sure that there was nothing special inside.  It was quite a normal Chinese almanac book with the look and the contents inside that are quite familiar to us.  It was over hanging behind the main door with a thin piece of wire.  However, the very strange thing happened 'it gave you some kind of mind disturbance as soon as the book was opened'.  The feeling was very hard to describe according to our SPI members.  Dizziness, chaotic thoughts and gradually we were feeling as if we were running low-blood pressure first in our brain then our whole body.  For each one of us, after flipping a few pages we could not go on.  This was a ridiculous scene because opening a book by a bunch of physically fit men looked like a difficult task.

Those who touched and opened the Tung Shu started to feel weak and sick.  Their faces ran pale, holding the forehead with hands; later they conveniently found a corner to squat down, leaned against the wall, and rested their heads on their knees.  Silently they just sat on the floor with almost the same pose for half-an-hour.  Everybody kept quiet including those who had and who had not touched the Tung Shu.  As it didn't seem life-threatening yet, and it may not be any use to call an ambulance (tell the doctors that we were cursed? by a book?), we just tried to regain our energy by resting.  We received a cup of warm water from those who had not touched the book, sipping down the warm water to calm our mind.  We felt as if we caught a cold.  Talking about cold, perhaps the spirits from the Tung Shu sucked out our energy - the 'Yan' chi (?)  You know the symptoms of fatigue, feverish, body-aching and nerve-racking.  That was how we felt.  Some members started a prayer, calling in the Holy name of Our Lord, to deliver us from devil offense.

We were not commenting whether the prayers had helped miraculously saving us or not.  We then felt slightly better.  So we had to terminate our investigation at this point, packed up (by the other unaffected healthy ones), and went for a light meal at the FengShan food court.  We gained some energy back after eating some Satay and Fried Kway Teoh.  We seemed to be recovering.

(2) heavy mold covers the fins of the fans - poisonous stuff.
(3+4) dead croacoches were seen under the dining table.

Abandoned neighbor

Just besides Alice's home, there was a flat, occasionally abandoned for many years.  By this, we meant from time to time, there used to be some families moved in to this flat, but would not stay for long.  This flat made us quite curious because the interior was quite well furnished.  It was in an immediate occupancy-ready condition.  We knew the property market was not stagnant in these few years, but why this particular unit was left empty from time to time.

Views of the abandoned neighbor right besides the haunted flat in Bedok.

We couldn't gain any legal access to the unit, so we only took these few pictures from outside through the window.  In the last two photos, they were among more photos that we got with a 'ring' projection on the wall.  First we thought it was due to the dust on the windowpane through which we photographed.  We shifted to another window, and even wipe cleaned the glass and our camera lens, the ring was still there!  Whatever that is, we are not sure.  But what we are quite certain about is that something must be wrong in this unit.  So nobody can stay there peacefully for long.  We are skeptics about the theory of co-incidence.

Answering Mysteries
1. Why dolls are usually chosen to be haunted?
2. Why we felt sick soon after we touched the Tung Shu?
3. What is that 'ring' shaped projection in the abandoned Bedok flat?

Come share your view with us!
