Bedok Haunted House   (Part 7 of 7)

Our analysis and advices

Our observations

Coming to the end of this investigation report, we can briefly summarize our findings to the following main points:

(1) The house was extremely untidy causing many Dark corners to exist and 'yin' energy to reside in the house.  Poor hygiene is a problem too.  Layers of dust and dead insects were everywhere on the floor.  Physically it was a very dirty place, indeed.

(2) Lighting in the house was incredibly insufficient.  That made the dark corners even darker.  The whole house was covered in darkness and virtually no sunlight shines in at all.  Again it resulted in accumulating plenty of 'yin' energy.

(3) Spiritual entities were detected both in the house and outside the house on the trees.

(4) Many strange ritual instruments were found in the house, such as hanging a very old-dated Tung Shu at the main entrance; keeping Toyol urns, Bomoh tubes and cursed doll, etc.

Dark corners were created in the house.  To just name a few, there was one behind the dressing table in Alice's room, one storage unit in the living room and the large dinning table in the kitchen.  These were hollow and inaccessible spaces that have not been touched for over 20 years.  Dark corners created pockets of hide-out not reached by our eye-sights.  From a psychological point of view, because we would not known what existed in these hidden spaces, hallucination may arise in our mind after some time.

Many evidences suggest that this house is badly haunted.  In fact the above are the characteristics of a haunted house in general.  In other words, if you want to prevent your house from being haunted, beware of the above points!

Our Advices

There are several things that must be done to remedy the situation.

(1) Let in natural sunlight into the house - pull off all the curtains, make sure the house is brightened through all the available windows.  Good air ventilation is important too.  A well ventilated house and with proper amount of sunlight help cleansing out the spirits should they exist in the house.

(2) Throw away all the ritual related objects - things like the cursed doll, Toyol urns, Bomoh and Tung Shui should be all trashed away as SOON as possible.  Quite likely they are where the spirits are directly adhered within.  Keeping them at home is like retaining their abode rights.

(3) Have a thorough cleaning up for the house.  Trash away all the litters, tidy up the places and get in some proper furniture.  There are super old dirt in the house aged over 20 years that must be cleaned.  From a skeptics point of view, that might explain why SPI members got sick after staying in the house for substantially long period of time.  In contrary to the belief that the Tung Shui is cursed, it may be the fact after we inhaled the super old dust (and germs) when opening the Tung Shui, we fell ill.

(4) Position the furniture properly to avoid dark corners.  Try to minimize the chances of getting hidden spaces; e.g. push the cupboard, sofa or whatever all the way to the wall and ensure no redundant spaces were left behind.

(5) Lastly, at the end of house renovation work, one can sprinkle some Holy water around the house obtained from church or any other place depending on his religion.  Likewise, the house owner can invite religious groups to do praying and chanting the places if desired.

However the above suggestions are only superficial...  The problem has to be solved up from its root.

(1+2) Examples of 'dark corner' in the house.
(3) Only one ceiling light was allowed to turn on in the living room, making the kitchen area as dark as a black hole.
(4) When a car drove pass, its headlight blended with the reddish street light would flash a tint of orange light on the kitchen cupboard.

Perhaps this is only one of the units rumored to be haunted out of tenths of thousands HDB flats in Singapore.

Final analysis

We believe ghosts are just souls without a body.  They become fierce and make trouble in the world because they have unsettled business, strong vengeances or hatreds that had not been soothed out.  A soul may remain revengeful forever if its hatreds cannot be vented out and be guided properly.  Same for human.  Alice's mother is such a fierce soul occupied with hatreds, yet she has a physical body and be able to perform evil things free at her will.

Perhaps this gets a little personal.  Since her husband left her about 20 years ago, she has been living in darkness.  Every day, her mind is occupied on how to win him back, even by using ways of dark forces, Bomoh, Toyol, etc.  For this, she travels often to Thailand and Malaysia, seeking evil stuffs and bring them back at home.  That we believe contributed mainly to why her house became haunted by spirits - she brought them home!

And, Mrs Koh disallowed anybody to tidy up the house that we guess are of the following possible reasons: (1) the Bomoh master told her to do so; need to create a very 'yin' environment for the spirits to live, (2) sentimentally she wants to preserve the 'home' where her husband used to live happily with her 20 years ago; therefore she wants everything to be placed exactly like original at home, and/or (3) the emotional hurt of the divorce has driven her insane to certain extent.  We feel with a great sympathy at this point of writing here, about how a woman had her life scorned, and not being able to liberate from the past.

For over 20 years, she had been holding the suffering, the hatred and an revengeful mind deep down to her heart.  There is a holistic belief that love is opposite to hatred as analogous to light vs darkness and God vs Evil.  Without love but extreme hatred with which Mrs Koh cannot let go, her mind would easily turn evil and stay with dark forces.  And thereafter performed so many evil acts and activities, like keeping her house eerie, and applying black magic on her ex-husband.

To our observation, all house haunting events that we found out are only symptoms or phenomena.  The root of cause is Alice's mother.  She is haunted and therefore with strong intended will, the house is made to be haunted by her.  The mother, Mrs Koh was the cause and the haunted house was the effect.  In order to completely solve the haunting problem, first it had to be solved with the mother.

This is not an overnight effort that SPI can offer.  However, we and Alice had planned to work with some Christian church friends.  They will try to befriend and stay close to her mother, and subtly lead her back into a normal life by introducing her about God's compassion.  From another view, Mrs Koh is truly a victim that deserves sympathy.  Hopefully with God's love and other new friends' love, her heart would be touched, and eventually will let go of her burden.  Refill it with love and beautiful things in this world.

We can't guarantee it will surely succeed.  But we certainly hope for the best, for Alice and her mother to regain a new life...
