From a scary and condemned creature to a famous mythical icon
Miss Pon. are you real?

Pontianaks. A very well known lady in the Supernatural world...

What is it actually?

The Pontianak is a female, blood-sucking vampire who lurks around trees and graveyards in South East Asia. She is a very nasty spirit/ghost. The name actually means "childbearing ghost" because the belief is that she was a woman who died during childbirth.

The Pontianak appears as a beautiful woman until she pounces on her victim, when she becomes an ugly old crone with razor-sharp teeth. Sometimes only her head appears, with entrails dangling from her neck. Legend has it that she preys especially on pregnant women and babies sometimes devouring babies out of the bellies of pregnant women, driven by jealousy from beyond the grave. She often preys on the weak and helpless. Men aren't safe either - in fact it's very unlucky to strike a woman in south east Asia, especially a married one, presumably in case she returns from the dead to get you!

How to know she is around?

She announces her presence with a sort of keening cackle, but the sound is deceptive: it's loudest when she's furthest away from her victim, growing fainter as she comes near. There will also be a smell of frangipani flowers (Bunga Harum Sundal Malam). According to old people, if the smell is sweet and fragrance which means she is quite far. But if she isnear, what you can smell is rotten flesh... Very smelly!

How does she look like?

I'm not too sure if anybody ever had a good view of her. But legends say that they are nothing more than large owls, whose faces look a bit human when they swoop out of the darkness. Not only that, some say she had the most ugliest faces of all with holes in the eyes... Some also say that she had a very red fierce eyes with very long hair that covered her faces and long white robes/clothes. It depends on what form she would appear. If the person is lucky enough, then she would not show her true faces. Legend says that she can fly, walk, crawl, climb and do all sorts of movement except jumping.

What I mean by faked face?

Pontianaks are very good with appearances. When they are 'hungry' they will transform themselves into the most beautiful woman of all. Legends say that whoever look at her beauty will 'fall' for her and follow her, that is because of the charm she had. After that, if that person is lucky, he survives. Otherwise, he dies of a horrible death.

How horrible the death is?

For Mens, once again, legend told that she would rip open their body, pulled the intestines out, heart out and make it look like as if a lion/tiger had feast on them... Some say she would also drink the blood of her victims but one thing for sure, whoever is caught under her, that is going to be a painful and most horrible death ever. (Some said she will rip off your dick and consume it!)

For pregnant women, She would wait at the roof top (if kampong), scratching the atap and make screeching sounds if the pregnant women is not armed or protected, Ms P would just rip open the poor lady bellies and eat the baby..

What I mean by armed or protected?

When a woman is pregnant, she is advised to bring sharp items with them as Ms P is afraid of it. That why Ms P would never dare to go near Durian trees ^^

You also need to be strong in your will, physical and mentally. Once has said before that if you are not afraid of them and maybe a hot tempered person, just scold Ms P...she would go away.

How to deal with her?

I'm sure everyone in the world wants to know the answers.

There are ways to deal with a Pontianak that is to drive a nail into her head. According to some legends, this will cause the monster to die; but according to other legends, putting a nail on the back of her neck will cause her to change back to a normal woman and most beautiful too...at least until the nail is removed. If the nail is removed, she would then turn back and haunt the person who nailed her.

Another way is to chant and say the holy Quran and make her trap into a bottle. That bottle will then to be buried deep inside the ground or to be thrown into the sea.

For Muslims, Holy Quran is the best ways to chase her away.

There are also stories that for people who have the grindstones (the old fashion blending stones with 2 stones, 1 big look-liked bowl and 1 small stomping stone), if at the middle at the night you grind the stones, she would actually cry because the small stones which we, Malay call 'baby stones' represent her child. SO it means we are so called grinding her child.

For those who happen to see her, she would sometimes carried a child with her which is actually not a child but a 'batu nisan' (graveyard stones). She would even come to you and ask you to help her carry the child then fly/disappear off.

So guys and girls be careful out there! Don't mistake a helpless woman at night, it could be her!

There are some stories about her I would like to share with all of you maybe some other times.

Malaysia Tales - Pontianak (The Malay Female Vampire)

There is a legend amongst the Malays of a female vampire or the pontianak that haunts lonely roads, cemeteries and jungles near villages. She is supposed to be the spirit of a woman who had died traumatically during childbirth. She seeks revenge by drinking the blood of and killing her wrong-doers. The pontianak is said to be dressed in a white gown, has a pale face, long flowing hair, blood-red eyes and fangs. She loves playing pranks on young men and hitch-hiking their bicycles, motorcycles or cars during night time.

A beautiful rendition of the malay Pontianak story is the Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam movie. Be sure to get the DVD of this movie if you happen to be in Malaysia.

The word pontianak - probably from bunting anak, "pregnant with child" - means the undead vampire of a woman who died while during childbirth. Disguised as a beautiful woman, the pontianak goes around murdering unwary men, harming pregnant woman and eating babies, but they can be controlled by plunging a nail into a hole in the back of their neck.

Legend said at the first time of Abdurrahman Alqadrie group arrival in the uninhabited area of Pontianak, it was haunted by pontianaks/kuntilanaks, which deterred many of his companions by their scary voices at nights. To sweep these ghosts away, Alqadrie ordered his men to fire their cannons to the forest which was believed to be their base. Afterwards, no more pontianaks' voice were heard ever.

Ps: do watch that movie however some of it are not real/true especially the part she ride the horse ^^

Appearance of Pontianak

In folklore, Pontianak often appears as a beautiful and seductive woman, usually accompanied by the strong scent of frangipani. According to myth, men who are not wary will be killed or castrated when she morphs into a hideous being; she will also eat babies and harm pregnant women and has been said to cause miscarriages.

People believe that having a sharp object like a nail helps them fend off potential attacks by Pontianak, the nail being used to plunge a hole at the back of the Pontianak's neck. It is believed that when a nail is plunged into the back of a Pontianak's neck, she will turn into a beautiful woman, until the nail is pulled off again. The Indonesian twist on this is plunging the nail into the apex of the head of the kuntilanak.

Pontianak is associated with banana trees, and its spirit is said to reside in them during the day.

Langsuir

Langsuir is a version of Pontianak, popular in Malaysia as one of the deadliest banshees in Malay folklore. Different from the Pontianak, which always appeared as a beautiful woman to devour the victim, Langsuir would possess the victim and suck blood from the inside, slowly causing a fatal end. It is believed that langsuir are from women who had laboring sickness (meroyan) as a result of suffering the death of their children and who themselves died afterwards. Portrayed as hideous, scary, vengeful and furious, the Langsuir is further characterized as having red eyes, sharp claws, long hair, a green or white robe (most of the time), a rotten face and long fangs. These are the common images described by people who claimed to have seen one. Pontianaks are sometimes claimed to be the still-born children of langsuir.

These are some of the photos that based on true life account from different parts of Asia mainly Malaysia and Indonesia.

This person die on the Tuesday full moon night she was just been buried but look like she is not in peace yet.

This photo was taken at one flat in Butterworth the person who took the photo was using a camera phone..when he took the photo he only saw white smoke behind this guy but after he taken the photo and look through the handphone, then they saw the lady.

This photo is taken in the morning... Can you spot her? Even in the morning..she can appear... Amazing, isn't it?

This is the photo when she was holding the baby, but beware..it not a baby..

This is taken from one music clips in Malaysia. This is quite a popular songs actually. When they play the part, there wasn't any woman (beside the female singer) in the house in fact it wasn't even view in the camera. But when they play it, the image appears, according to the people, the house they used for the footage was an old house...

Was spot at the night while the person was happily taken pictures around him..

This was taken at the Old Rest House, Kuala Lipis, Pahang, Malaysia. The House was built during colonial times and lots of mystique cases had happened.

Now let continue with the Ms P, I have some friends and outsiders that had shared with me their encounters before.

1st story

This happened a few year back in Malaysia. You see, I was staying in Malaysia four years ago with my parents because they bought a house there And our house was very near to my aunt's house. My aunty is the type that loves to hear gossip, rumours and stories. We, Malay called them 'Umno Ladies' (sarcastic way of course)

There was once when she came to the house after returning back from her work. She told us the stories of her colleague that lived near a kampong, and that Kampong was being hunted by Pontianak. Why so and what happened?

A few days back a pregnant girl just dies. Accidentally she was killed by her own father.

She was just a teenager and her family had a good name in that area. However, it was a mistake that she couldn't avoid. Her father was also known as someone who does not have a bad tempered type. However, one night, when the secret was revealed, the father went outbreak and kicked the poor gal (she was pregnant for more than 6 months). She loss a lot of blood and died on the spot. Because of shame, her father did not do a proper burial of her.

My mom mentioned it to my dad. My dad who is a hot tempered person told us that no matter what happened, to kill an innocent baby (even though it was still inside girl womb) is already considered as a sin.

After a few days, sighting and hearing of her cries started. Worst, people actually saw her (in Pontianak form) scratching her house wall, crying and sometimes seen angry at night. Beside her house was a tree and that was the tree she would sit and make disturbances. At those times a lot of people were afraid of going around the place.

Since it was a kampong...the 'Tok Iman' and 'Penghulu' (leader) needed to solve it. They called upon some religious people to recite prayers so she will be at peace. But it still did not work. She did run away when heard the prayers but she returned the next night once the prayers stopped. She was still there for more than a week.

I still remember my mom asked me whether I wanted to go and see the Ms P... But my dad did not allow it because to him it was bullshit especially when Ms P did not go away or rest at peace when Holy Quran was read, so we missed our chances.

After a few days, everything went back to normal. My aunty did not tell me what happened after that.

I wonder if my mom still remembers the place. Hmmm...

Some other additional stuff.

Banana tress are always linked to Pontianak...maybe because the tress have 'jantung' (the brown colour fruit that grows along with the banana).

Some people believed that by getting a Pontianak, they will be rich or at least have some easy life, but they are wrong...

In order to get hold of one, stories told that what you need is a needle, a long yellow or red string, eggs, yellow glutinous rice, 'kemenyan' and other related witch craft materials.

What you have to do is, if you are sure that a particular banana tree at which lives the Ms P, you will have to tie the string to the tree and pin it, while the other material to be placed in front of the trees like giving her serving. Do that in the middle of the night.

Once you complete the process, you can hear the cry of her as if asking and begging you to let her go.

Some greedy people, they would actually asked for 4D number but that will come with a high price which I will mention later. Some will keep them and worst married them.

Like what I said earlier in the legend, you have already been told that Pontianak will change into a beautiful woman once driving a nail to back of her neck. So basically, the person who wishes to married her (for fame or that guy is desperate) will have to keep checking on the nail. Make sure the nail is intact.

For those who asked for lottery numbers or material wealth, Pontianak will demand them to make a so-called daily or a must ritual for her...maybe to come every fortnight and present her something. But most of the time, what she wants is a sacrifice. Something of fresh Blood/Lives.

If you still remember, there was a story of a married guy that was sent to the mental hospital for destroying a Muslim cemetery because Pontianak took 7 lives or more exactly the heads of his love ones in the family. (I can tell you what happen if you forget).

Well...that story is true. Because in every black magic or dealing with Satan (Pontianak is believed to be a form of Satan in Muslims) they will suffer lots of consequences both in Earth and after dead.

Back to her again.

2nd Story

Happened in Penang Highway (True stories and witness by the chief police himself) Not sure whether you had heard this incident... but shall tell you again..

A recently wedded couple was on the way to the end of Penang for holiday, and the fastest route is to go through the Penang highway, which is located in between some thick jungles.

Somewhere in the middle of the highway, the car stopped dead, and it was in the middle of the night. The husband wanted to reach fast. He told the wife that he will be going around asking for help and to find fuel for the car. The wife did not want to go out, choose to stay in the car.

It was quite long when she found out that her car was shaking. At the same time there were cars passing by but did not stop. So she presumed that it was just the vibration from the moving cars.

However, it became more weird that not only her husband took a very long time to return, but all the cars that passed by which she noticed from the view mirror. At first they were kind of slow down but when it about to reach near, they will speed up as fast as they can. Her car was continuously shaking and she still thought it was due to the effect from the passing cars since they speed up.

After a few hours, which I blurry remember, 3am or 4am, she heard sirens. She turned and saw a police car and the strangest thing is the police car was so far in front of her car.

Then she saw some car stopped by the police and waved at her as if asking her to come out. From a distance she saw the chief police officer taking the speaker. He then instructed her to come out from the car as fast as she can and walked straight towards them without even turning back. Of course, it was strange, he would say that, but she still followed the instructions.

The moment she reached the police site, they told her not to be afraid and looked back.

To her most horror, on top of the car was the Pontianak HOLDING HER HUSBAND BODY, and knocking his crushed head to the car. Bang Bang Bang. Now she knows what took her husband so long and why the passing cars speed up so fast.

The police got to wait till dawn for the Pontianak to leave and retrieved the dead body and of course, the wife went hysterical after that.

The story was in the news long time ago. It was my same aunty who reminded my mom about it when we were on the way for holidays to Pahang (that needs to pass through the Penang Highway according to my dad).

Scary huh?

Like most Muslims believed, Pontianak is actually a form of Satan that is used to scare us and they only way to face them is to be brave to them as well as to know their weakness (prayers).
